i have over 15 years of experience as a musician and have been privileged to have performed extensively during this time. i am strongest and most often found on piccolo, and i double flute, alto saxophone, and clarinet. sometimes, bassoon and violin/fiddle. i also have vocal experience as a former soprano and current bass (range: ≈E♭₂-G₄).

i believe in expanding the traditionally cisgender male-driven field of music to all who wish to experience the craft. while my experience is primarily as an instrumentalist and woodwind player, i have recently begun to explore my changing vocal instrument and hope to work with transgender singers following my next educational adventure. in my hormonal transition, my voice has dropped about two octaves and a sixth. as someone with a singing background at the university level, this has been quite the journey! my education has been essential, yet still a challenge in learning how to use (and find!) my voice again. in my early transition, i was very fortunate to have seen an excellent medical professional who took care of my voice instead of frying it as some transgender men have experienced. he also encouraged me to sing through the effects of my weekly injection, no matter how hard it was as an educated musician. i went through, essentially, another puberty at 28 years old… including the vocal cracking that teenage boys experience. singing through it allowed my voice to gradually even out.

i hope to share what i’ve learned with other transgender singers and contribute to changing and challenging who is “allowed” to embark on a musical journey.
